Senate Votes to Take Up ‘Big, Beautiful’ Revised Budget Bill
Senate Republicans took a critical first step toward passing their sweeping budget reconciliation bill Saturday night by voting to bring the package to the floor, setting the stage for a heated floor fight and a grueling series of amendment votes that was likely to stretch past the weekend. If that schedule holds, passage may not occur until sometime Monday, June 30.
Industry Groups Push for HSA Expansion in ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’
A group of 10 industry trade associations related to employer-sponsored benefits wrote a letter in support of legislative proposals to expand eligible expenses, contribution limits, and telehealth coverage for HSAs. The letter was signed by the American Benefits Council, the ERISA Industry Committee, Small Business Majority, the HR Policy Association, and six other organizations.
Chip Roy, 23 Other House Republicans Urge Senate to Preserve HSA Provisions
In a June 23 letter to to House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) and 23 other House Republicans urged Senate Republicans to put a slew of provisions related to health savings accounts back in the GOP’s mega budget bill.
Supreme Court Upholds ObamaCare Preventive-Care Mandate
The Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of an ObamaCare requirement that insurance companies cover certain preventive care recommended by an expert panel, protecting access to preventive care for an estimated 150 million Americans. The justices reaffirmed that the Secretary of Health and Human Services has the authority to exert control over the panel’s recommendations.
IRS Provides Tax Relief for Taxpayers Impacted by Severe Storms, Straight-line Winds, Tornadoes, and Flooding in Missouri; Various Deadlines Postponed to November 3
The IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in parts of Missouri affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding that began on May 16, 2025. These taxpayers now have until November 3, 2025, to file various federal individual and business tax returns, make tax payments, and make 2024 contributions to IRAs and HSAs.
